Which Snorkel?
There are more snorkels than there are weeks in the year. You get collapsible ones, corrugated ones, ones with valves and ones without. There isn't a specific best but at least initially buy the cheapest one on the rack (£7?). Buying a snorkel without the extra valves and gizmos keeps it both cheap and will help to teach you to snorkel without depending on the assistance they give.
The best place to store a snorkel, if not actively snorkelling, is in your dive bag. In a diving environment, they can get in the way and are rarely used. This is particularly obvious when you consider that there is a perfectly adequate gas supply on your back.
Things to look for:
Is it comfortable in your mouth? Is the bore (hole) the right size? Probably a little larger that an inch in diameter. Does it have a corrugated section? These tend to collect water, making them harder to clear.
| Snorkels tend to be much of a sameness, just look out for the above features. |
