If you want to make your own Buoyancy Compensator, You can find an article on making up a harness on:

A shopping list is shown below with the least expensive and/or better quality suppliers as appropriate:

What?
Where?
1 x Single Tank Adaptor (For Single Tank Diving only. It is not entirely necessary if the backplate has slots for cam-bands and you buy a later version of the wing immediately below)
1 x Halcyon 36lb Pioneer Wing (For Single Tank Diving)
1 x Halcyon 55lb Explorer Wing (For Twin Tank Diving)
1 Metre Loop of Bungee
Most DIY Stores and/or Dive shops
1 x Back Plate and Harness Comprising:
1 x Stainless Steel Back Plate
(OMS/Halcyon style design)

3mm from Portland Oceaneering (Mark 1 Design);Underwater Explorers and/or the UKRS Backplate

or 6mm from Aleutian Diving Products

15' Webbing (make sure that it is "stiff" weight belt style material and won't slip through the Serrated Weight Retainers)
Underwater Explorers or most good dive shops

Runnymede Dive, Underwater Explorers and/or any good dive store
5 x Stainless D Rings
